Incidents of violence erupted in Manipur's Bishnupur district, resulting in the tragic death of at least three people from the Meitei community in the Kwakta area. The situation escalated further as several houses belonging to the Kuki community were set on fire during the clashes. This recent outbreak of violence follows clashes between armed forces and Meitei community protesters that occurred two days prior in the same district.
Late on Friday, the Bishnupur Police reported that three individuals from the Meitei community lost their lives in the fresh incidents of violence in the Kwakta area. Additionally, numerous houses belonging to the Kuki community were burned down during the unrest.

Violence at the Buffer Zone
According to police sources, the violence unfolded when a group of people from the Meitei community crossed the buffer zone, guarded by central forces, more than 2 km ahead of Kwakta area. These individuals opened fire in the Meitei areas, leading to the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property.

Clashes with Armed Forces
The recent violence follows clashes that erupted two days earlier between armed forces and Meitei community protesters in Manipur's Bishnupur district. The clashes left 17 people injured and prompted the authorities of Imphal East and Imphal West to withdraw earlier curfew relaxations as a precautionary measure.

Provoking the Incident
The incident in Kangvai and Phougakchao areas of the district occurred when Meitei women attempted to cross a barricaded zone. The presence of Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force (RAF) halted their progress, leading to stone-pelting and clashes between the Meitei community and the armed forces.
